Desk Or Workstation? The Name Doesn’t Matter, The Matter Is What Matters!

The Desk as we know it has changed many times over the years, the basic form has stayed the same, but as time and life have evolved so has its design and it’s function in our lives. Today the modern desk, or workstation is something that most of us cannot live without. A great many time when we move into a new place it is not the bed or the sofa that we move in first, its the workstation. We do not set up our kitchen or organize the bathroom first, we hook and and get comfortable with our computer and work area.

These days more and more people are working with jobs that let them have a free and open lifestyle with their work. Its is estimated that about 1/4 of the population are now working as freelancers or independent contractors and about 20% of the remainder work at jobs with companies that allow them to work at home at least three days a week. This means that more than ever the choice of a workstation is a personal one. As more and more of us spend a greater amount of time sitting in our work area than we will in any other environment, it becomes essential that we chose a workstation that is ideal for us as individuals.

Metal Choices

Here is another great article Dailymotion - CarbonCopy Pro - a Tech & Science video

Metal workstations are very popular due to their modern and sleek designs. They can come in an almost limitless array of options and often incorporate other materials as well such as stone, glass, acrylic, or wood. They are extremely sturdy and very durable. The price varies as does the quality but they are easily able to be found in almost any department store, or office supply retailers outlet.

Stone Workstations

When you hear about a stone desk you may at first think about Fred Flintstone and what height have in his home office. The truth is that starting in the mid 1960′s a renowned artist named Mike Pillar started making furniture designs that were different than anything else on the market at the time. Intended for small batch production and for a very sophisticated and exclusive crowd his furniture set a standard that still to this day has an impact on the industry. His use of stone was ground breaking and today the stone workstation is one that screams, “I AM UNIQUE”

Acrylic and Glass

The advent of modern technology has allowed for the creation of workstations that are made from acrylic materials, plastics and formed glass. These workstations allow literally for the sky to be the limit as far style and design. These workstations are able be incorporated into almost any environment, they look best in modern interiors however. They are very durable despite the fact that they are much lighter weight than their traditional material counterparts.

Artistic

Artistic workstations are available in a wide variety of materials and are generally one of a kind; they are an expression of the artist view of the world in the form of functional furniture. Just as with any kind of art, the price will be as varied as the workstation. If you are looking for a workstation that is truly special, a one of a kind artistic desk is perfect for you, but be aware that the search may be long and arduous. However, as they say the journey is the reward.

The truth is that the modern workstation has almost no boundaries, who is to say what is not a legitimate concept for a work surface in this day of mobile living and casual lifestyle. The desk will always be a primary component of our homes and offices, but what the workstation is will always continue to evolve.

It doesn’t matte what your taste is, the true beauty of the modern desk is that not only does it have a physical beauty that is outstanding but an intrinsic one as well in the fact that is can be something as expressive about you are the skin on your smart-phone or the pattern of your laptop sleeve.
