Natural-looking Gel Nails – Are They For You?

False nails of some sort have been popular for a while. In their various forms, they allow women who struggle to grow their own nails to have long, attractive nails. Some types of false nails, however, not only look fake, they damage the natural nail beneath them. The advantage of gel nails is that they do neither.

Gel nails are made from pre-mixed polymer and monomer gel applied to the nails, then cured. The mixture is odourless, making it more pleasant to work with and have applied, and there is less filling involved so the procedure does not take as long as other types of false nails. There are light-cured gels which need to be cured under UV lights, a no gel nails that are cured with a special gel activator that is brushed or sprayed onto the nail. Some no-light gels are cured by being dipped in plain water. No-light gels have the advantage of taking a shorter time to cure.

Gel nails look and feel more natural than acrylic nails because they are thin, clear and flexible. They don’t go yellow, and they do not lift as easily as acrylic nails do, Because they are glossier than other false nails, gel nails look great even without the benefit of polish – which can be applied to the gel nails as well.
