Usually, a Christian funeral ceremony is organized by the pastor. They are generally conducted at the church which the deceased used to visit during his or her lifetime. Generally no casket is used in the service, but there are exceptions to this, especially when the service is conducted in a funeral home. A conventional Christian funeral service does not include public viewing of the deceased at the time of service.

The rituals in such a funeral service are more like a memorial, in which religious songs and similar prayers are sung and lines from the Bible are read out loud. A short message is delivered by the priest, after which a mass prayer is held.

Then the attendees share the grief of the family as well as close friends and talk about their own experiences as to how the deceased has influenced them and left an everlasting impression in their minds. Some families also plan to organize a slideshow of photographs of the dead person or play a video recording from the life of the deceased.

The service finally ends with a brief fellowship reception at the church, where food is served. A graveside service is generally not included, but some make an exception to this.
