Relaxing Homemade Bath Recipes

Some days only a bath will do after a long and tiring day. Showers may be great for your fast paced life, but once in a while it’s nice just to kick back and take some time for yourself.

Break out some candles, fill the tub to the top and add one of these natural homemade bath recipes. They can all be made with simple, easy to obtain ingredients, and will help you relax and unwind.

SLEEPY TIME HERBAL BATH 4 tbsp dried chamomile; 3 tbsp dried lemon balm; 2 tbsp dried passion flower; 1 tbsp dried valerian

If you’re feeling agitated at bedtime, the right herbal combination can help you drift right off into deep sleep. Herbs that you might use in a bedtime bath include chamomile, hops, lavender, lemon balm, marjoram,passion flower, sandalwood and valerian as these are all promote relaxation.

HERBAL SCENTED BATH BOMBS 1/2 cup baking soda; 1/2 cup lemon juice; 8 drops an essential oil of your choice*; 1/2 tsp sweet almond oil 2 drops food coloring (optional)

All you need to do is mix these ingredients into doughey, golf ball sized balls and drop them into your hot tub. It’s the baking soda that gives them the fizz and the essential oils that help you relax. Be sure that the oils you choose are safe for direct skin contact.

RELAX IN MILK BATH 4 cups powdered milk; 1 cup boiled water; 1/2 cup dried chamomile or 5 chamomile tea bags

Boil the water and make a tea from the chamomile leaves or bags. Add the powdered milk to the strained tea, stir, then mix into your warm bath. The milk is great for softening your skin and the chamomile will help you relax.

AFTER BATH MOISTURIZING BODY MIST 1 tablespoon of grape seed oil; distilled water; 1/4 cup of witch hazel; 1 tbsp of your favorite scented oil

Pour all ingredients into a spray atomizer and shake well. Spray all over and rub into your skin. Especially nice after a long bath.

IN A HURRY WAKE-UP BATH 5 drops rosemary essential oil; 3 drops peppermint essential oil; 2 drops spruce essential oil; 1 tbsp vinegar

If you’re feeling a bit sluggish just put these essential oils and vinegar into your warm bath and you’ll be amazed at how much more invigorated you’ll feel afterwards.

MILK AND HONEY BATH 4 tbsp honey; 1 quart boiling water; 6 tablespoons dried milk powder

Mix the honey and boiling water together until the honey dissolves, then let it sit and cool. Add the milk power after the honey water has cooled and mix together. Mix it into your bath until dissolved and slip on in. The milk and honey will help moisturize your skin and is especially good for those dry winter months.

If you enjoy making your own gifts, all these bath recipes (except for milk based ones) are great for gift giving. Put them in a fancy container and make them look decorative and you have a great homemade gift for family and friends.

*When you an essential oil for scent, read warnings about use. Some oils are not intended to have direct contact with skin. Avoid rosemary and peppermint essential oil’s if you are pregnant or nursing.
